HILDA PROFFITT
Hilda Proffitt, 104, formerly of Burnsville passed away Sunday, May 11, 2008 in a Norfolk, VA hospital. A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Bascombe Robertson and Altha Holcombe and the wife of Clarence Proffitt who died in 1967. She was a member of Elk Shoal Union Church and later, Bald Creek United Methodist Church.
Surviving are 3 daughters: Margie Gilbert of Erwin, TN, Imojean Hensley of Aiken, SC and Helen Marihew of Virginia Beach, VA; 7 grandchildren; 9 great grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 PM Saturday in the chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Revs. Albert Bentley and Doug Cooper will officiate. Burial will be in the Proffitt Cemetery on Hardscrabble Road.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
GRADY PITTMAN
Grady Pittman, 86, of Cane River, passed away Saturday, May 10, 2008, at his home. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Morgan and Amanda King Pittman. He was also preceded in death by seven brothers: Fuller, Bernie, Charles, Raleigh, Garrett, David and Billy Pittman; and, a grandson: Chris Stewart. Grady was a retired farmer.
Surviving are his wife: Bonnie Robinson Pittman; three daughters: Shirley Stewart and Denean Ayers of Asheville and Deneise Pittman of Burnsville; a son: Rev. Ronnie Pittman of Candler; a sister: Martha Pittman of Burnsville; and, five grandchildren: Candy Pittman, Penny Mashburn, Jason Ayers, Amanda Ayers and Bradley Clark.
Funeral services will be held at 1 P.M. Tuesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. The Revs. John Cole and John Anglin will officiate. Burial will be in the Cane River Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 P.M. Monday at the funeral home.

FAYE FRANKLIN McCURRY
Faye Franklin McCurry, 74, of Henderson, TN, passed away Wednesday, May 07, 2008, at her home. A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of the late Floyd and Belle Edwards Franklin, and the wife of Lloyd McCurry who died in 2001. Faye was a retired employee of Henredon Furniture Company in Morganton.
Surviving are her daughter: Patricia Ledford and husband, Robert, and a granddaughter: Elyssa Ledford of Henderson; a brother: Hoyt Franklin of Erwin, TN; and, several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be held at 1PM Sunday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. The Rev. Robert Deyton will officiate. Burial will be in the Piney Hill Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 5 until 6:30 PM Saturday at the funeral home.
ROY BENNETT
Roy Bennett, 76, of Bolens Creek passed away Wednesday, May 7, 2008 at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital. A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late John and Carrie Miller Bennett and the husband of Chloe Deyton Bennett who died in 1994. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter: Kelly Dianne Towe; and brothers: Lester Owens, J. B. and Bassie Bennett.
Surviving are two daughters: Vickie Towe and Sandy Hilemon and husband, Maurice; a grandson: Jody Dwight Towe; a step granddaughter: Erika Hilemon and a brother: Willie Bennett all of Burnsville.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M. Saturday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Rev. Vernon Buchanan and Dr. Chris Morgan will officiate. Burial will be in the Miller Cemetery on Bolens Creek.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home, and at other times, will be at the home of Sandy Hilemon.
