VIRGINIA WILSON BOONE

Virginia Wilson Boone, 94, of Eskota in the Pensacola community, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, November 18, 2012 in Mountain Manor Assisted Living.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Ewart and Essie Ray Wilson.  A great-granddaughter of Big Tom Wilson, she was a great historian of Yancey County.  She was the wife of Brooks D. Boone who died in 2000.  She was also preceded in death by a son:  Steve Boone and brother:  Tom Wilson.  She was a member of Laurel Branch Baptist Church.

 

Surviving are a son:  David Boone and wife, Elaine, of Pensacola; a daughter:  Linda Ogle and husband, Billy, of Swannanoa; a brother:  Ned Wilson and wife, Marjorie, of Pensacola; grandchildren:  Tommy and Scott Ogle, Christy Edwards, Dr. Bradley Boone and Daniel Boone; 7 great grandchildren:  Seth, Trey, Gabe, Sydney, Reagan, Wilson and Cheney.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Dr. Bradley Boone and Rev. Ray Strickland will officiate.  Burial will be in the Academy Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 12:30 until 2 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

JIM SPARKS, Jr.

Jim Sparks, Jr., 66, of Burnsville passed away Friday, November 16, 2012 at Mission Hospital.  A native of Mitchell County, he was a son of the late James and Myrtle Greene Sparks.  He was a U.S. Marine Vietnam Veteran.  He was very involved in VFW and DAV work.

 

Surviving are his loving companion, Ruby Edwards and her three sons of Burnsville; a son:  James Sparks, III of Elk Park; grandson:  Matthew Lane Sparks of Minneapolis; step grandson:  Takota Vance of Elk Park; 2 granddaughters:  Autumn Suzanne Sparks and Caitlyn Danae Sparks; 2 sisters:  Naomi Huskins of Pembroke Pines, FL and Etta Carolyn Dishner of Hickory; and several nieces, nephews and other family members who loved him very much.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday in the Chapel of Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery in Black Mountain.  Military grave rites will be conducted by Sgt. E. L. Randolph Chapter 57 DAV.

 

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Tuesday at Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.

ARMIN O. ENGLAND

Armin O. England, 89, of Indian Creek, passed away Friday, November 16, 2012 at Mountain Manor Assisted Living.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Herbert and Mamie Higgins England and the husband of Louise McIntosh England who died April 30, 2012.  He was a WWII Army Veteran, a retired employee of the NC Department of Corrections and a respected mechanic and farmer.  He was also preceded in death by brothers:  Perry England and Howard England; sister-in-law:  Lois England and brother-in-law:  J. B. Anders.

 

Surviving are a daughter:  Diana England and a son:  Mark England of Burnsville; sister:  Mildred Anders of Mars Hill; brothers:  Ed England and wife, Helen, of Burnsville and Clay England of Maiden, NC; sisters-in-law:  Eloise and Bula England of Burnsville and several nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Rev. Philip Garland will officiate.  Burial will be in the England Family Cemetery. 

 

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

BRENDA HANEY

Brenda Haney, 54, of Burnsville went to be with the Lord Thursday, November 15, 2012 at St. Joseph Hospital.  A native of Yancey County, she was the daughter of Marie Hensley Haney of Burnsville and the late Earl Haney.  Brenda was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church. 

 

Surviving, in addition to her mother, are two brothers:  Sherman Haney of Old Fort and Ronnie Haney of Marion; 5 nephews and 2 great nieces.

 

Funeral services will be held at 5 PM Sunday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  The Revs. Philip Garland and Cline Hensley will officiate. A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Monday in Rocky Pass Free Will Baptist Church Cemetery at Nebo.

 

The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 PM Sunday prior to the service at the funeral home.

BRENDA ELKINS

Brenda Elkins, 41, of the Prices Creek community, went home to be with the Lord, November 13, 2012 at her home.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of Ben and Marvelene Austin Elkins.  She was a member of Indian Creek Baptist Church.  Brenda was a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend.

 

Surviving, in addition to her parents, are her daughter:  Candace Tipton of Burnsville; son:  Lucas Tipton of the home; sister:  Teresa Wilson and husband, Don; brother:  Roy Elkins; nieces:  Kayla Buchanan and husband, Logan, and Kelsey Wilson; and a great niece:  Khloe Buchanan all of Burnsville.

 

Funeral services will be held at 8 P. M. Friday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Revs. Philip Garland and Don Wilson will officiate.  A graveside service will be held at 10 A. M. Saturday in the Elkins Family Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 P. M. Friday prior to the service at the funeral home.

JOE DEAN LEDFORD

Joe Dean Ledford, 56, of Burnsville, passed away unexpectedly Monday, November 12, 2012.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of Geneveve Randolph Ledford Johns of Burnsville and the late Floyd Ledford.

 

Surviving in addition to his mother, are a son, Michael; sisters:  Maria Grindstaff of Burnsville and Regina Wilson and husband, Doug of Johnson City, TN; nephews:  James Pate, Jonathan Grindstaff and Matthew Grindstaff of Burnsville and Jeremy Wilson of Johnson City; nieces;  Missy Mitchell and Amanda Wilson of Johnson City and Katie Grindstaff of Burnsville and several great nieces and nephews.

 

Funeral services will be held at 3 PM Saturday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Randy Randolph and Tom Cooper will officiate.  Burial will be in the Academy Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 1:30 until 3 PM prior to the service at the funeral home.

STEVE ALLEN

Steve Allen, 57, of Burnsville passed away Sunday, November 11, 2012 at Brookside Rehabilitation and Care.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Frank and Madge Tipton Allen.  He was also preceded in death by a brother, Ray Edward Allen.

 

Surviving are a daughter; Brandy; a son:  Christopher; siblings:  Christine Hensley, Fred Allen, Jerry Allen, JoAnn Phillips, Larry Allen, Bobby Allen and David Allen, all of Burnsville, Jan Ledford of Johnson City, Joyce Letterman of Weaverville, and Donna Penland of South Carolina.

 

Funeral services will be held at 8 PM Tuesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Rev. Perry Norton will officiate.  A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Wednesday in the Allen Family Cemetery at Pensacola.

 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

RONALD JAKE HONEYCUTT

Ronald “Jake” Honeycutt, 71, of Horton Creek went to be with the Lord Sunday, November 11, 2012 at his home.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Ruby Honeycutt.  He was an owner/operator, dump truck driver.  Jake was a member of Paint Gap Presbyterian Church and attended Cane River Baptist Church. 

 

Surviving are his wife of 45 years:  Carolyn Tallent Honeycutt; a son: Shane Honeycutt and wife, Shelly, and grandson: Mason Jake Honeycutt of Conway, S.C.; a sister:  Christine Garland and husband, Leonard, of Bakersville; father-in-law: Fred Tallent of Burnsville; 3 nephews: Greg Honeycutt, Kevin Garland and Todd Westall; 3 nieces:  Holly Wilson, Laken Phillips and Heather Cutts; a great nephew:  Hunter Wilson; a great niece:  Isabella Garland; and 2 step grandsons:  Austin and Kevin Crave.

 

Funeral services will be held at 8 PM Wednesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Rev. Shane Cassida will officiate.  A graveside service will be held at 11 AM Thursday in the Cane River Church Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 6:30 until 8 PM Wednesday prior to the service at the funeral home.

BETTY YOUNG RIDDLE

Betty Young Riddle, 79, of Pensacola, passed away Sunday November 11, 2012 at her home.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Charlie Ross and Laura Adams Young.  She was also preceded in death by sisters:  Christine Quarles and Carol Holcombe; brothers: Joe, Jack and Charles Young. Betty worked for Sears & Roebuck for many years before moving to Alaska for eleven years, where her favorite past time was Golf, which she continued after moving to Burnsville.  All of her Grandchildren were very special in her heart.

 

Surviving are her loving husband of 55 years:  Dazzie Vance Riddle; a daughter:  Debra Ann Riddle of Asheville with grandchildren:  Megan, Destin, and Jennifer; a son:  Jack “Randy” Riddle of Burnsville with grandchildren:  Holly, David and Travis.

 

Funeral Services will be held at 2 PM Wednesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Hospice Chaplin Joe Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in the Pearson Riddle Family Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

LUTHER ANGLIN

Luther Anglin, 77, of Marion, passed away Monday, November 12, 2012 at Autumn Care Nursing Center in Marion.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Rabe and Grace Riddle Anglin.  He was a former employee of Broyhill Furniture Company.

 

Surviving are his wife, Arlene Edwards Anglin; a son:  Dennis Anglin of Marion; a daughter:  Deborah Ansley and husband, Shelton, of Cairo, GA; a sister:  Mable Higgins of Weaverville; 2 brothers:  Bill Anglin of Roseville, MI and Braskie Anglin of Orlando, FL; 4 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.

 

A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM Thursday in the Watts Cemetery on Lotties Creek.
