CHARLES WAYNE GEOUGE

Charles Wayne Geouge, 76, of South Toe passed away Wednesday, March 27, 2013 at his home.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Alvin and Margaret Geouge and the husband of Texie Geouge for 48 years, who passed away January 13, 2013.  He was also preceded in death by a son: Charles Wayne Geouge, Jr.; brothers:  Edward Geouge and Billy Geouge; sister:  Marie Bolick and several brothers and sisters-in law.  He served in the US Army from 1960-1962.  He loved to garden, mow and spend time with his family and grandchildren.  Charles was a member of Browns Creek Baptist Church.

 

Surviving are a daughter and son-in-law:  Charlene and Jackie Briggs; two precious grandchildren:  FR Dillon Briggs, US Navy, stationed in Great Lakes, Illinois and Caitlin Briggs of Burnsville; a special young boy:  Colton Brinkley; sister:  Genevieve Annas of Hickory; brothers:  Richard Geouge and wife, Hattie, Lawrence Geouge and wife, Sonya, and Robert Geouge and wife, Ruby, all of Burnsville; sister-in-law:  Millie Silvers and husband J.B.; daughter-in-law:  Patricia Thompson and many nieces, nephews, church family and friends.

 

Funeral services will be held at 8 PM Friday, March 29, 2013 in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Rev. Donald Davis will officiate.  A graveside service will be held at 1 PM Saturday in the Gurley Cemetery at Celo.

 

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Friday, prior to the service, at the funeral home.

ALLEN ROBINSON

Allen Robinson, 75, of Burnsville passed away at his home.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late Walter Bristo and Mary Whitson Robinson.  He was also preceded in death by a son, Danny Robinson.  Allen was a retired, heavy equipment operator.

 

Surviving are 2 sons:  Gary and Allen Robinson, Jr., of  Maine; 5 sisters:  Virginia Buchanan and Opal Buchanan of Burnsville, Joyce Storm of Hanover, PA, Ann Wonder of Littlestown, PA and Wanda Thompson of Morristown, TN; 3 brothers:  Johnny Robinson of Burnsville, Leroy Robinson of Valdese and Arlie Robinson of Bean Station, TN; and 4 grandchildren.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Saturday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.   Pastor Ricky Woody will officiate.  Burial will be in the Double Island Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

JOHN RYAN COATES

John Ryan Coates, 27, of Marshall, went home to be with the Lord, Saturday, March 16, 2013 at his home with his family by his side.

 

Ryan was born January 5, 1986 in Buncombe County. He was a member of Arrington Branch Baptist Church and attended Victory Baptist Church. Ryan was an Master Auto Technician for Paramount Kia until his health wouldn't allow him. He was a 2004 graduate of Madison High School and 2005 graduate of NASCAR Technical Institute of Mooresville, NC. Ryan was an avid outdoorsman loved sports and was a talented musician. He had an exceptional work ethic and was a great provider for his wife, daughter and family. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandfather, Johnnie Coates and his maternal grandfather, Everette Massey.

 

Surviving are his loving wife, Lorissa Young Coates; the light of his eye, his daughter, Isabelle Coates; parents, John Dale and Iva Jean Massey Coates; paternal grandmother, Lockie Rice Coates; maternal grandmother, Ella Davis Massey, all of Marshall; brother, Tyler Dale Coates and his wife Lynsey, of Weaverville; father and mother-in-law, John and Denise Young; brother-in-law, Brandon Young, all of Burnsville and numerous other family members and friends.

 

Funeral services for Ryan will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday, March 20, 2013 at Victory Baptist Church, 1215 Bear Wallow Rd., Burnsville, NC with the Reverends Ken Parker, B.P. Boyle, Scot Garland and Phillip Parker officiating. Burial will follow in the Arrington Branch Church Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 4-8 p.m. Tuesday at Victory Baptist Church.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to their daughter, Isabelle Coates Fund, which is setup at First Citizen's Bank.

FRANK 'BUCK' PETERSON

Frank 'Buck' Peterson, 84, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord Saturday, March 16, 2013 at his home. A native of Yancey County he was a son of the late Ruben and Etta Renfro Peterson. He was also preceded in death by 2 brothers, 6 sisters and by his first wife, Margaret Ilene Means Peterson.

 

Frank was a World War II Air Force Veteran and served in Saudi Arabia, Iraq and Israel. His lifelong profession was training standardbred horses.

 

Surviving is his wife: Eva Jo Garland-Peterson, a son: Mickey Peterson and wife Dawn of Wilkes Barre, PA, a granddaughter: Brittany and a grandson: Michael.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Tuesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home. Pastor Charlie Carroway and Rev. Joe Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in the Peterson–McCourry Cemetery on Pound Mill Branch.  Military graverites will be conducted by Sgt. E.L. Randolph Chapter 57 DAV.

 

The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

ROY J. ROBINSON

Roy J. Robinson, 85, of Chestnut Hill Road, Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord Friday, March 15, 2013, at Brookside Rehabilitation & Care.  A native of Yancey County, he was a son of the late William and Pearl McIntosh Robinson, and the husband of Myrtle Fox Robinson who died in 1998.  Roy was a retired employee of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home with 35 years of service.

 

Surviving are a daughter:  Diane Phillips of Burnsville; 2 sons:  Clarence Robinson and wife, Rita, of Winston Salem and Stoney R. Robinson and wife, Judy, of Chuckey, TN; 5 grandchildren:  Travis, Rockey, Stanley, Scotty and Angela; 9 great grandchildren; 2 sisters:  Meldeen Shuford of Marion and Julia Mae Caldwell of Weaverville; and, 2 brothers:  Arnold Lee Robinson and Denson Robinson of Marion.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2PM Monday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Revs. Jerry Shelton and Randal Robinson will officiate.  Burial will be in Holcombe Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends from 5 until 7PM Sunday at the funeral home and 1 hour prior to the service on Monday.  At other times the family will be at the home of Eula Walker on Highway 197 North.

FRANCIS ALBERT BULLETT

Francis Albert Bullett, having traveled all over the world, went to his final home, Friday, March 15, 2013.  He was 87 years old and passed due to cardiac complications.  Born in 1925, in Montreal, Quebec, Canada, Frank leaves behind his devoted wife, Patricia Phillips Bullett in Spruce Pine, NC to where they retired.  He was preceded in death by a son, James Frisbie.  Two wives also preceded Frank in death, Rosetta Thomas Frisbie, mother of his children, and Nola Stephenson. 

 

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are a daughter:  Linda Frisbie McMillan of Summerton, SC and a son:  Michael Bullett of Charleston, SC; 10 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.  Counted among family were NC step-children:  Karen Collis and Tim Collis and wife, Donna; grandchildren:  Trevor Collis, Ryan Hoyle, Rachelle Hoyle and Gavin Smith.

 

Frank joined the Royal Canadian Navy where he served in Europe during WWII.  Post-war, he returned to the US, was sworn in as an American citizen in 1947 and joined the US Navy where he served until 1954.  Professionally, Frank was a Dying and Finishing Specialist and finished a lengthy career after 18 years at Oneita Knitting Mills.  After retirement, he became a consultant for Oneita, work that took him to Ecuador and Peru in South America, Guatemala in Central America, as well as, the Southeastern US.

           

Frank was a member of Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church in Burnsville.  He also belonged to the Yancey County American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

 

A memorial service will be held at 2 PM Sunday in the Life Center, Higgins Memorial United Methodist Church.  Rev. Wes Sharp will officiate.  The family will receive friends following the service at the church.

GWENDOLYN THOMAS

Gwendolyn Thomas, 50, of Bradford Road went to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at her home.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of Geraldine Higgins Brackins of Burnsville and the late Harmon Brackins.  She was also preceded in death by a sister, Glenda Roland.  Gwen was a former employee of OMC and Mission Hospital.

 

Surviving, in addition to her mother, is a sister, Linda Murphy of Burnsville; a niece, Victoria Dawn Murphy and a nephew, Keith Daniel Robinson and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Friday in Higgins Free Will Baptist Church of which she was a member.  Revs. Junior Peterson, Denny Wilson and Keith Miller will officiate.  Burial will be in the Brackins Family Cemetery on Bradford Road.

 

The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 PM Thursday at the church.

ANNIE TAYLOR ANTILL

Annie Taylor Antill, 90, of Burnsville, went home to be with the Lord Sunday, March 3, 2013, at Brookside Rehabilitation & Care.  A native of Madison County, she was a daughter of the late Lyda and Minnie Bell Allen Ray.  She was also preceded in death by her husband:  John Ed Taylor; a grandson:  Frank Weth; 7 brothers; 2 sisters; and, 2 daughters.

 

Surviving are 2 daughters: Juanita Barbieri and husband, Ralph, of Westbrook, Maine and Barbara Ann Weth of Burnsville; 2 sons:  Troy Taylor of Inman, SC and Arthur Lee Taylor of Newport News, VA; 4 grandsons; 1 special granddaughter:  Tammy Lynn Briggs of Burnsville; 11 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews also survive.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2PM Wednesday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Rev. Benny Green will officiate.  Burial will be in the Briggs Cemetery.

 

The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

REBA THOMAS ROBERTS

Reba Buchanan Thomas Roberts, 77, of Ransom Silvers Road, went home to be with the Lord, Friday, March 1, 2013.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse and Hettie Dale Buchanan.  She was also preceded in death by her first husband Phillip M. Thomas who died in 1978, son Randy Thomas; sisters: Lora Robinson, Geneva Robertson, Irene Presnell, Jeanette Randolph Harris and Lillian Young; brothers: Whitt, Bill, Roy and Doyle (Dude) Buchanan.  Reba was former Tax Collector for Yancey County.  She was a member and Elder of Micaville Presbyterian Church.

 

Surviving are her husband: Jack Roberts; a daughter: Gail Thomas of Asheville; stepsons: Alan Roberts of Spruce Pine and Ricky Roberts of Texas; a special grandson: Jarrett Roberts of Spruce Pine; and a sister; Gladys Hall and a brother: George Buchanan both of Micaville.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 P. M. Monday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  The Revs. Pete Peterson and Billy Mitchell will officiate. Burial will be in Double Island Cemetery. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

LOUANN EDWARDS HOOVER

Louann Edwards Hoover, 74, of the Pensacola Community, went Home to be with the Lord Friday, February 22, 2013, at Blue Ridge Regional Hospital.  A native of Yancey County, she was a daughter of the late Andy and Ruby Berry Edwards.  She was also preceded in death by her husband:  Ranious Hoover, who died in 2005; a brother:  Andy Edwards; and, grandson:  Zachary Hoover.   Louann was a retired employee of Baxter Healthcare.  She was a member of Concord Baptist Church.  Louann was a loving mother and  grandmother, and enjoyed her friends at the Yancey Senior Center. 

 

Surviving are 5 children:  Dennis Hoover of Micaville, Karen Hoover and Bo Mosley of Spruce Pine, Gary Hoover and wife, Sandy, of Micaville, Stanley Hoover of Newdale, and Ann Cable and husband, Doug, of Marion; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; 6 sisters:   Roxie Cromeans of Micaville, Ellen Ballew of Old Fort, Della McCracken of Burnsville, Betty McEntyre of South Toe, Maxine Newton of  Loretta, TN and Jean Edwards of Newdale; and, special friends:  Robert and Louise Blackburn.

 

Funeral services will be held at 2 PM Monday in the Chapel of Holcombe Brothers Funeral Home.  Preacher Jerry McClain will officiate.  Burial will be in the Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. 

 

The family will receive friends Sunday from 3 until 5PM at the Funeral Home, and at other times the family will be at her home.
